Tax evasion controversy hounds Liloan VM

CEBU, Philippines - Liloan Vice Mayor Lucelito Pilapil is allegedly involved in tax evasion controversy after his medical clinic in Barangay Yati was found to be operating without a business permit.

Records at the Liloan Municipal Business Permit and Licensing Office show that Pilapil did not secure a permit since 2014. Pilapil, however, claimed he is exempted from paying business taxes.

“Regarding anang business permit, naay circular ang Department of Finance panahon pa ni former Secretary Edgardo Espiritu nga ang mga Medical ug Dental Clinic dili kinahanglan mokuha og business permit,” Pilapil said in a text message sent to The FREEMAN.

The Pilapil Medical Clinic offers general medicine and ultrasound services for a fee.

The records obtained by The FREEMAN show that Pilapil has not been paying business taxes, occupational tax, community tax, among others, since 2014.

He has not also been paying real property tax of his residential property in Barangay Yati since 2013, according to the records of the Municipal Assessor’s Office.

Pilapil also failed to declare the improvements on his real property, including the house where he lives.

Pilapil is running for mayor under the Durano-led Barug Alang sa Kauswagan ug Demokrasya (Bakud) Party against lawyer Christina Garcia-Codilla Frasco, wife of incumbent Mayor Duke Frasco. — (FREEMAN)
