Capitol to start classroom repairs soon

CEBU, Philippines- Some 32 schools in Cebu province, including those hit by super typhoon Yolanda more than a year ago, will soon have additional rooms to accommodate more students.

This after the provincial government downloaded at least P39.4 million to fund its school building projects.

The funds for the school buildings were shelled out through the concerned local government units. Each of the buildings costs more than P1 million.

Provincial Engineer Hector Jamora said they would monitor the implementation of the projects following the release of the funds.

The recipient schools are those in the barangays of Poblacion in Daanbantayan, Mancilang in Madridejos, Hagnaya and Sab-a in San Remigio, Ukoy in Santa Fe, Bulangsuran in Samboan, Poblacion and Looc in Santander, Poblacion West and Busay in Moalboal, Legaspi and Alangsil in Alegria, Ubaub in Argao, Consolacion and Amusao in Dalaguete, and Cabadiangan in Alcantara.

Other schools include those in Pasol, Alcoy; Minolos, Barili; Hingatmongan, Balamban; Kalangahan, Tuburan; Compostela Central, Compostela; Cogon East, Carmen; San Jose, Catmon; Mohon, Sogod; Don G. Antigua, Borbon; Maabog, Pilar Camotes; Consuelo, San Francisco; Tudela; Esperanza, Poro; Southern Poblacion, San Francisco; and Gilutongan, Cordova.

Another 14 school buildings with a total worth of P16.7 million are to be implemented by the Capitol itself. These are Patao in Bantayan, Poblacion in Medellin, Mabuli and Daan Tabogon in Tabogon, Maravilla in Tabuelan, Cagsing Mangaco in Ginatilan, Zaragosa and Calangcang in  Badian, Bogo and Kawasan in Aloguinsan, Cabiangon in Pinamungajan, Obogon in Asturias, Cansaloay in Oslob, and El Pardo in Boljoon.

The budget for the construction of school buildings was sourced from the province’s P181-million special education fund.

This year, Capitol, in partnership with Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc., also repaired 18 damaged classrooms under the Gabaldon restoration project.

There are 42 others whose constructions are still ongoing. (FREEMAN)
