Girl, 2, dies of suspected meningo in Naga

CEBU, Philippines - A two-year-old girl died of suspected meningococcemia Tuesday evening at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.

Renan Cimafranca, chief of the regional epidemiology and surveillance unit of Department of Health, said the victim came from Barangay Tinaan, City of Naga.

Cimafranca said the girl was admitted in the hospital on August 19 because of fever but died on the same day.

He, however, said that they are still waiting for the result of the laboratory test.

"Wala pa mi laboratory confirmation nga gihuptan tungod kay amo pa nga susihon kung nakuhaan ba ug specimen ang namatay nga bata," he added.

Cimafranca said they are now tracing those who came in contact with the girl to monitor possible signs of infection and to determine if there is a need to give Prophylaxis treatment.

Based on the death certificate, the girl died of septic shock and meningococcemia suspect.  (FREEMAN)
