P250T lost in Banawa, Cebu Country Club fire

CEBU, Philippines - Some P200,000 worth of property were lost in a fire that razed five houses and damaged a three-storey apartment along Duterte Street, Sitio Banawa, Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City yesterday afternoon.

The fire broke out almost 5 p.m. and was controlled 20 minutes later. It was raised to second alarm, said city fire marshal Rogelio Bongabong.

Bongabong said the fire reportedly started at the kitchen of a carenderia inside two-storey house owned by Noah Virano.

The fire spread to the three-storey apartment where three occupants reportedly inhaled smoke and were given first aid treatment. No other casualties were reported.

The fire department is still investigating the cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, fire hit the Cebu Country Club along Governor Cuenco Avenue in Barangay Kasambagan Thursday evening.

The blaze destroyed the golf cart parking area of the establishment.

It took firefighters only five minutes to control the fire, which was reported at 9 p.m.

Senior Fire Officer 3 Daniel Relatado Jr. said the fire could have been triggered by overcharging.

He said that after golf carts are used the entire day, these would be turned over to the maintenance employee and then charged overnight.

The damage was pegged at P50,000. No casualties were reported. — Grace Melanie I. Lacamiento/NSA (FREEMAN)
