Man charged for stealing cop’s phone

CEBU, Philippines - A 40-year-old man is facing criminal case for theft before the Regional Trial Court after he was arrested for stealing a cellular phone owned by a police officer.

Assistant city pro-secutor Mary Ann Castro has indicted Michael Chua Suaring for theft and recommended P20,000 bail for his temporary liberty.

Suaring, a resident of Sitio Ponce, Capitol Site, Cebu City, was arrested on February 14 at 2 p.m. in Barangay Pasil during a follow-up operation personally conducted by the victim, SPO2 Jesus Rudson Villahermosa, 54, assigned at the Regional Intelligence Division of Police Regional Office-7.

Villahermosa said that he parked his van along L. Flores Street on Valentine’s Day to take his lunch. After eating, the victim said he met his friend, William, an aircon technician whom he asked to check on his car airconditioning system.

While talking with his friend, Villahermosa said he left his cellphone worth P12,500 at the front seat of the van. The victim said he saw Suaring took his phone and tried to chase the suspect but failed to catch him.

It was later in the afternoon when he conducted a follow-up operation that he found the suspect and arrested him.

The suspect then accompanied Villahermosa to Carbon Public Market to recover the policeman’s cellphone.

Suaring admitted committing the crime during investigation. —FPL (FREEMAN)
