Man shot dead by policemen

CEBU, Philippines - A man was shot dead by the police after resisting arrest and attempting to shoot responding cops in Barangay Lorega San Miguel, Cebu City yesterday dawn.

Rosalino Lambo, 32 of Sitio Itom Yuta, Barangay Lorega San Miguel died on the spot due to multiple gunshot wounds to the body.

Initial investigation revealed that Lambo was drinking in front of a minimart and was brandishing a .45 caliber gun.

Police Chief Inspector Romeo Santander, head of the Cebu City Police Office-City Intelligence Branch, said that they received a report regarding an armed person in the place.

The members of the CIB immediately responded and upon their arrival, they asked Lambo to put his gun down.

However, instead of submitting, Lambo reportedly drew his gun out and pointed it to the police, prompting them to shoot Lambo.

The police then called the paramedics, who declared the victim dead.

Recovered from the scene were four empty shells of a shotgun, a live shotgun bullet, one empty shell of a caliber 9 mm, one .45 caliber pistol with a magazine loaded with five ammunitions.

Santander said that they received a report that Lambo was a hitman and they are verifying reports linking him to a shooting incident at the Cebu Chinese Cemetery in Mabolo last Saturday. — Janice Marsada,USJ-R MassComm Intern/ATO (FREEMAN)
