Vendor pours boiling oil on lady’s face, body

CEBU, Philippines - It was literally a heated argument between two vendors after one allegedly poured boiling cooking oil on the face and body of the other Wednesday morning along Don Gil Garcia Street, Barangay Capitol, Cebu City.

Rheynalyn Canteveros, 24, was arrested after her neighbor Jerame Panginahug, 25, reported to the police that the former poured boiling cooking oil on her body after a heated argument.

Panginahug sustained second and third degree burns on her face, right hand and right foot.

Fuente Police Station Chief Inspector Wildemar Tiu said Panginahug sought the help of the police and showed to them her injuries.

Panginahug, in an interview with The Freeman, said that Canteveros, who is a fellow street vendor engaged in selling banana cue, was mad because she started to sell the same product.

“Nasuko man na siya sir nganu kunong giparehasan nako siya og tinda og saging,” Panginahug said.

“Ako sa una sir naninda ko og pagkaon iya sad ko nga giatbangan wala gyud ko masuko, pero karong nga naninda ko og saging suko kaayo na siya,” she added.

Panginahug said she refuted when Canteveros told her that she should leave the place.

“Giingnan man ko niya sir nga palayason kuno ko niya, papahawaon sa akong pwesto, nagkalalis me sir,” she narrated.

After a few minutes, Canteveros reportedly took the cooking pan filled with boiling oil and poured it on Panginahug.

Panginahug was quickly brought to the Cebu City Medical Center for treatment.  As soon as the victim was allowed to leave the hospital, she went to the police station to report the incident.

The police arrested Canteveros, who was crying and begging for forgiveness, but the victim refused and said she will file a case against her.

Canteveros is now detained at the Police Station 2 stockade and will be charged for physical injury.  (FREEMAN)
