More nubain seized from Kamagayan

CEBU, Philippines -  An 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl were arrested in a buy-bust conducted by the City Police intelligence branch in Barangay Kamagayan last Friday.

The two were arrested after they sold an ampoule of nubain worth P200 to a poseur-buyer. The man was identified later as Gino Villegas but The Freeman is withholding the identity of the girl because of her minority.

Police recovered 236 more ampoules from the two after the arrest.

CIB chief, Police Supt. Romeo Santander, believes the two have a financier but both never spilled the beans during interrogation.

He said Kamagayan has been a subject of numerous raids and nubain has been a prominent item recovered during the operations. He said more operations should be undertaken to curb the distribution further.

The operation last Friday was led by Senior Police Officer 1 Raymond Supatan who also led the team that confiscated nubain and arrested five people in Barangay Pit-os.

When he assumed office as chief of Regional Police Office 7, Chief Supt. Prudencio Bañas declared an all-out war against illegal drugs.

Senior Superintendent Conrado Capa, deputy regional director for operations, also ordered all police stations in Central Visayas to implement two anti-drug operations each month. (FREEMAN)
