MCDCB asks LGUs for better septage system

CEBU, Philippines - The Metro Cebu Development and Coordinating Board (MCDCB) passed a resolution asking the cities and municipalities within Metro Cebu to enact ordinances on the establishment of a Comprehensive Septage Management System for their respective jurisdictions.

According to the resolution, proper septage management is vital in preserving the integrity of water resources, ensuring water quality, and promoting public health within the Metro Cebu area.

The Metro Cebu Water District (MCWD) is mandated to ensure that proper septage management is implemented within its franchise areas.

MCWD covers the whole Metro Cebu which includes the cities of Cebu, Mandaue, Danao, Lapu-Lapu, Talisay, Naga and Carcar and the towns of Consolacion, Liloan, Compostela, Cordova, Minglanilla and San Fernando.

During the MCDCB meeting held in Danao City on July 9, 2014, the Department of Public Works and Highways in Central Visayas submitted a report on the status of the local government units’ participation in the National Septage and Sewerage Management Program (NSSMP).

The report showed that of the seven cities and six municipalities in Metro Cebu, only the city of Cebu and the municipality of Cordova have enacted ordinances on the establishment of the comprehensive septage management system using the template prepared by the MCWD. —(FREEMAN)
