Catwalk for a Cause

CEBU, Philippines — Now and then there comes a runway show that isn’t solely about fashion.

There was such an event in the city last Sunday – with an ecology-awareness gist. Titled “Coral Catwalk: A Walk for a Cause,” and held at Robinsons Galleria Cebu, the event didn’t just set the spotlight on designs by nine of the metro’s top up-and-coming designers and brands; it also promoted the value and importance of one of the world’s rapidly diminishing natural resources: coral reefs. The main thoroughfares of the mall, from its Basement 2 Level to the 4th Level, served as the runway of the show.

Coral reef-themed ensembles by designers and brands Jan Tiong, Nino Benito, Shayne Remoreras, A.T.E by Tatah, Modern Essentials, Griffins Malazarte, Hannah Noel, KC Villamero and Rene Sisbreno communicated the message of the affair. The candidates of the Binibining Cebu 2020 pageant modeled the designs.

The event’s showcased pieces all belonged in a contemporary Chinoiserie theme that harped on the minimalist inclinations of traditional oriental designs.

The show was a collaboration among Robinsons Galleria Cebu, the Binibining Cebu Organizing Committee and the recently formed Go Grow Glow CEBU organization.
