When colors and calligraphy meet

CEBU, Philippines - The dictionary definition of calligraphy is "handwriting or penmanship", or simply "beautiful writing". The word traces its roots in the Greek language - 'kalli' means beautiful and 'graphia' is Greek for writing. Calligraphy is thus the visual art of writing. A fuller definition of the word goes: "the art of giving form to signs in an expressive, harmonious and skilful manner".

National Bookstore, the leading bookstore and office supplies store chain, recently hosted a Color and Calligraphy Fair at the SM Northwing Atrium, SM City Cebu. Calligraphy enthusiasts were treated to a live mural-making event by AJ Tabino, Gian Solamo and Chan Cane on the first day. Known Cebuana Calligrapher Williza Go did the Limelight Brush Pen Calligraphy demonstration in the morning. Artist Abby Sy was featured in the afternoon workshop.

The second day was focused on the art of coloring. Live art demos were conducted by Joemar Mangkok and Kenny June Legaspi, then continuing to Williza's Sakura Koi Watercolor Demo.

Coloring and drawing pens, colored and mechanical pencils, water colors, markers, and paper products for drawing, coloring, and calligraphy from such brands as Sennelier, Chameleon, Stabilo, Pilot, Sakura Caran D' Ache, Marvy, Uni, Titus, Faber-Castell, Dong-A, Fabriano and Acquarello were on display and sold at the fair.
