Coalition for Better Education's 15th Anniversary

Innovative approaches to improving the quality of education were the focus of "Celebrate CBE," a mini-exhibit mounted by the Coalition for Better Education (CBE) at the Ayala Center Cebu last April 29 to May 1. The exhibit marked the opening of a series of events in celebrating the coalition's 15th anniversary.

The Cebu-based coalition is a broad-based non-government organization composed of teachers and school administrators, students, parents, government, other non-government and development groups and the business community. Believing that ignorance and poverty in the Philippines can be overcome by holistically learned communities, CBE has determinedly pursued its vision of creating empowered learning communities.

Thus, throughout its history, CBE has linked with industry and the business sector to generate inputs for enriched education curricula and the development of world-class materials for classroom instruction. Also engaged in the total learning support chain are parents and the communities.

Aside from pursuing advocacies towards the implementation of the K-to-12 program, Education for All and the 10-Point Philippine Education Agenda, CBE sustains the Center for Teacher Excellence at the Cebu Normal University as part of its research, training and development component.

"Celebrate CBE" had a series of events marking the organization's historical milestone - sharing its successes and giving inspiration to its members, partners and the public.

Among the successes which the CBE celebrates annually is outstanding achievement by education graduates through the awarding of the CBE Medal of Excellence.

During the opening of "Celebrate CBE," one outstanding graduate each of Bachelor of Science in Education programs of ten select universities and colleges in Cebu were presented as this year's Medal of Excellence awardees.
