Lani Misalucha doesn't deliberately upstage

Ogie Alcasid is not afraid to lose his popularity and recognizes there might come the time no one would listen to his songs anymore.

The singer-songwriter is celebrating his 30th anniversary in showbiz with a major concert titled "OA: Ogie Alcasid Anniversary Concert" which goes onstage at the Araneta Coliseum tonight.

“I never thought that I’d go this far in my career. To celebrate 30 years in showbiz is an awesome achievement. I am grateful to have been given the chance to share my talent to the public,” said Ogie. 

He worked hard to achieve what he has now and is thankful that his talent is appreciated.

But he is aware there will come a time the applause will die down, the attention will wane and the screams will no longer be as loud.

But it doesn’t bother him. In fact, he doesn’t have any intention of retiring from showbiz.

“I will continue singing as long as I am breathing. I will never stop being an entertainer because that’s my life. I can’t live without sharing my passion for music,” said Ogie.

Asia’s Nightingale Ms. Lani Misalucha says that whenever she sets foot onstage, it is not her intention to outshine anyone she is performing with. The only thing on her mind is that she ought to give her best for her audience.

Of course, she has heard comments that she deliberately “eclipsed” the performance of another singer she is sharing the stage with. But mind you, that was not deliberate, said the singer who has made Las Vegas her home for several years now and made the foreign audience love her performance.

“Pag kumakanta naman tayo onstage, hindi naman natin iniisip na sapawan ang kasama natin,” said Lani at the presscon of “ALaniMorisette: Musical Journey” held Tuesday at the lobby of The Theatre at Solaire.

The show, directed by Carlo Orosa, will be held on September 22 and 23 at the Theatre at Solaire.

“We just do our best because that is how we are supposed to do it to please our audience. Yes, I do hear comments that I upstaged so and so but that was not intentional,” says the "The Clash" judge. 

But how can you not be upstaged by Lani who is a solid performer? The audience is mesmerized when she sings, be it a soulful tune or a powerful number.

Lani is happy to be sharing the stage with Morisette Amon, who idolizes her. She also recognizes that Mori is just like her – a performer who gives her best even if she, as Lani experienced, gets the flak for being so good.

“There won’t be a sapawan onstage but we are going to make good music together,” Lani said of her collaboration with the Cebuana singer.

Lani is also doing a show with the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of its founder and music director Maestro Rodel Colmenar. The MPO is celebrating its 20th anniversary and the celebration is a grand concert featuring the country’s best in the classical and pop music scenes billed “MPO: Trailblazing Music Excellence.” It takes center stage on Sept. 1 at the Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo of the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

Having a solid goal as a teenager is a cool thing but to actually work hard and be dedicated in pursuing that goal is another matter.

Teen singer Vanerie Rosales believes any dream or goal is reachable if you focus on it. She is relatively new in the business as she started her singing career only two years ago.

She is very optimistic in promoting her debut song “This Man I Know” released in digital format.

“I believe my effort will pay off one day. So right now, I do whatever I can to introduce my music,” Vanerie said when we met at her debut party.

The young singer, who also composes songs, hopes that one day she could release her own album. In the meantime, she juggles school work and gigs in small venues during weekends.

“I’m doing this because of my dream to get a recording contract and share my music to a bigger audience,” Vanerie added.

Singing a la Amy Winehouse, her knowledge of interpreting music and text is manifested by her cleverly artistic use of voice production, harmony and melody. She has the ability to sing with distinctive emotional depth by generating styles to present her repertoire even at her young age.

She is exciting, entertaining and a dynamic performer. The promising 17-year-old plays ukulele, her top instrument of choice to interpret stuff she writes and covers.
