Cebuano bets shine in Bohol karatedo

CEBU, Philippines - Cebuanos dominated the A.S.K Bohol Cup 2015 Invitational KaratedoTournament at the Galleria Luisa Activity Center in Tagbilaran City over the weekend.

With only eight players, the Cebu squad of coach Larry Avila still managed to place second overall.

Jo-ann Iñigo led the charge with two gold medals in the senior kata-55kg and in the open weight women's kumite. Inigo's impressive performances paved the way for her to be the best female kata player.

In the men’s side,  Warlito Ponteros of Cansojong National High School got the gold for in the senior kata, while Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu's Reiner Angelou Cruz got a double gold in the 13 to 15 years-old's kata and kumite.

Theodore Monticalvo snared the 8-9 novice kata gold while the silver went to Roland Montecalvo.Montecalvo though got the gold in the kumite.

Steffi Mae Tabañag of Collegio de la Inmaculada Concepcion ended with a silver medal in the -55 kgs. division kumite and bronze in the senior kata event. University of Cebu's Jesah Mae Ann Bacus secured the gold in the -55 kgs. plus a silver in the senior kata while Denzil Clyde Amora got the gold in the intermediate kata.

The Cebuanos also got gold in team kumite women's and gold in synchronize kata.— Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (FREEMAN)
