CEBU, Philippines - With the agency’s continued support for existing and aspiring entrepreneurs, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI-Cebu) will conduct its regular free enterprise development seminar (EDS) for April.

An entrepreneurial seminar is scheduled this April 25 that will tackle on how to identify, start and manage a business and promote enterprise skills development.

It will discuss the process of complying with the requirements upon putting up a business and laying out expansion strategies for existing businesses.

EDS shall also highlight the 10 qualities that an entrepreneur must have.

Elias Tecson, DTI Cebu business development division chief of DTI-Cebu, said in an interview that it is significant to match their business strategies of the existing and aspiring entrepreneurs with their interests aside from taking advantage with the business opportunities present in the market.

He added that businesses that are proved profitable at present include those that are inclined to health and wellness, tourism, processed food, and souvenir items.

He further noted that micro entrepreneurs need not compete with big players in the industry but rather work on their sustainability, innovation and partnership with existing companies to stay ahead of the game.

He added that such local businesses could also complement with the requirements of large-scale businesses especially with exporters who need additional produce without directly hiring more manpower.

Tecson said that the public could expect more seminars to be regularly conducted by the government agency as DTI further urged Filipinos to be employers rather than just be employees.

DTI advocates itself in recognizing the current trends in the market, conducting trainings in the countryside and bridging the gap between small-scale businesses and larger firms.

The EDS of DTI started four years ago to promote awareness and support would-be entrepreneurs and existing businesses. /JOB (FREEMAN)
