When you have sons, they tend to do their own schedules for vacations when they reach their teen years, especially thereafter.  So I learned to enjoy my own vacations whether with my sister, with close friends or by myself.  I did not take a vacation at all in some years.  My memory of our intact family vacation was when we did a month-long tour of Europe, then London, a year after the college graduation of the boys in 1999.
