MANILA, Philippines — Gilas Pilipinas girls stifled Maldives, 110-28, to complete a prelims sweep and punch an outright semifinals ticket in the 2022 FIBA U18 Women’s Asian Championship Division B action yesterday at the Koramangala Indoor Stadium in Bangalore, India.

The national U18 squad broke away, 21-6, right in the opening salvo and never looked behind to post a rousing 82-point victory and cap a 3-0 sweep in Group A of the Asian youth tourney serving as a qualifier for Division A play.

All players scored for the Philippine team led by Louna Ozar with 22 markers in only 17 minutes of play as they made it three in a row following earlier triumphs over Thailand, 65-50, and Samoa, 66-50.

Kate Bobadilla (17), Ryhanna Calvert (17) and Liane Loon (14) pumped in help as Kalynee Abraham collected 11 points, 11 rebounds and three steals in the Gilas’ lopsided affair.

Maldives finished its Group A campaign winless as only Ana Aminath Simad showed up with 15 markers.

Gilas will have a two-day break to wait for its semifinal opponent from the qualifying phase featuring the second and third-seeded squads from the two groups.
