Dolorito, Dahab propel LPU to third win

MANILA, Philippines — Lyceum of the Philippines University overcame Letran’s strong challenge to eke out a 25-14, 25-22, 28-30, 25-12 victory and bolster its Final Four bid in the 97th NCAA volleyball tournament at the Paco Arena yesterday.

Johna Denise Dolorito and Zonxi Dahab took turns in delivering points and finished with 18 each as the Lady Pirates claimed their third win in five outings.

The Cromwell Garcia-mentored LPU squad also got the needed boost from Janeth Tulang and Jewel Theresa Maglimat, who scattered 11 hits apiece.

After a faulty and sluggish first two sets, the Lady Knights steadied themselves to take a set point and send Lyceum to a four-setter which the Lady Pirates won just the same.

Letran, which was paced by Juliene Castro’s 12 hits and skipper Shereena Urmeneta’s 11 points, stumbled to a 1-4.

In the other game, Arellano U trounced Jose Rizal U, 25-18, 19-25, 25-18, 25-19, to improve to 4-1. The Lady Bombers slumbered to 2-3.
