Carrion elected to FIG council

MANILA, Philippines — Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) president Cynthia Carrion won a spot in the powerful continental council representing Asia during the elections done by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) in Antalya, Turkey.

Carrion emerged with the second highest votes among the five elected members of the council after garnering 25 votes, just one short of top vote-getter Saqr Al-Mullah of Kuwait.

Srayuth Patanasak of Thailand, Ruslan Mustaev of Uzbekistan and Ita Yuliati of Indonesia were the other members elected to the council.

Japanese Morinari Watanabe overwhelmingly won another term as FIG president during the polls attended by 130 national federations.

The terms of the fresh set of officers will last until Dec. 31, 2024.
