MANILA, Philippines — The ASEAN Para Games has been cancelled for the second straight edition.
Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Abraham Tolentino yesterday confirmed the biennial event was officially called off after host Hanoi, Vietnam decided to focus solely on holding the 31st Southeast Asian Games slated in May next year.
“Yes, they (Vietnam) will not organize it, only the SEA Games,” said Tolentino.
It marked the second time that the ASEAN meet for the differently abled was scratched after the Philippines also withdrew from hosting it early last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, Tran Duc Phan, the Vietnam Organizing Committee (VIESGOC) deputy chairman, confirmed the SEA Games would be staged in the middle of May.
