Dante Navarro - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Ira Alido slowed down with a one-over 72 but safely made it to the first cut in the Final Qualifying Stage of the 2020 Asian Tour in Hua Hin, Thailand yesterday.

After an impressive 68 at the A&B courses of the par-71 Lake View Resort Golf and Country Club Wednesday, struggled at the C&D layouts in one of the late flights and ended up with a 72.

But his 140 total kept his bid for one of the coveted Asian Tour cards going at joint 51st with the chase heating up in the next two days where the 140 plus ties field dispute the top 70 places. The survivors will then clash for one last round for the 35 cards up for grabs.

Justin Quiban bounced back from an opening 74 with a 69 for a share of 115th at 143 while Tony Lascuna, who shot an opening round 72, had a one-under card after 15 holes and was at provisional share of 95th.

Lloyd Go, who matched par 71 Wednesday, had a running three-over card with three holes left at presstime and in danger of missing the cut at 144 while Fidel Concepcion struck back with a 68 after a 78 but still failed to advance with a 146 at joint 169th along with Ryan Lam who also rebounded with a 73 from an 81 for a 154.

Three, meanwhile, pooled 133s to share the lead, including Zimbabwe’s Ben Follet-Smith (68), Japanese Toshiumi Kushioka (69) and American Dodge Kemmer (64).
