NU Pep retains cheerdance title

MANILA, Philippines — Loud and proud, National U showcased “Pinoy Pride” in near-perfect fashion to roar to its second straight UAAP Cheerdance Competition crown last night at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Veering away from its winning Disney-themed piece last year, the NU Pep Squad went back to the roots, boasting the country’s tri-colors spiked by high-flying tosses, solid pyramids, tough stunts and dazzling dance routines for an impressive 722 total points.

NU, which was denied a possible five-peat two years ago, ignited another dynasty in the making with this back-to-back championships. It’s the sixth title in the last seven years for NU Pep.

Aside from P50,000 cash prize, NU bagged the special awards in Best Stunt, Best Pyramid and Best Toss much to the delight of coach Ghicka Bernabe.

FEU Cheering Squad (706 points) and Adamson Pep Squad (658.5 points) completed the podium as silver and bronze medalists, respectively.
