Petron, F2 dispute PSL Invitational crown

MANILA, Philippines – Reigning champion F2 Logistics and unbeaten Petron open another chapter in their famed rivalry when they dispute Philippine Superliga Invitational Conference crown today at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

Tipoff is at 6 p.m. with the Blaze Spikers and the Cargo Movers figuring in a win-or-go-home duel in the tournament that was fast-tracked to give way for the preparation of the Philippine women’s team to the 30th SEA Games.

Cignal, meanwhile, takes on Foton in the bronze medal match at 4 p.m.

The league is also gearing up for the PSL Super Cup on Nov. 5, 7 and 9, pitting two PSL selections, a university team from Japan and the national team. It will serve as the Nationals’ final tune-up for the SEA Games set Nov. 30-Dec. 11.

National team head coach Shaq delos Santos, however, said the Blaze Spikers are focused on today’s title match against the Cargo Movers.

“We’ve been always falling short in this tournament so hopefully in God’s will, we can finally get over the hump and claim the Invitationals title,” he said after Petron finished second to F2 Logistics in the Invitationals last season.
