Power Builders register third straight win

MANILA, Philippines — Motolite leaned on Myla Pablo’s steady game as it outplayed Air Force yesterday, 25-14, 25-18, 25-23, and notched its third straight win in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Slowly regaining her form following an injury that hampered her and the team’s performance in the recent Reinforced Conference, Pablo unleashed a 15-point outing that gave the Power Builders a huge follow-up to their straight-set victories over Chef’s Classic and the BaliPure.
“The first and second sets were convincing but we started slow in the third,” said Motolite coach Godfrey Okumu, whose wards produced 41 attack points, 14 more than their rivals. “Because of the way we started, we noticed as we continued playing, we struggled. We seemed to be making an effort in things that we’re supposed to do effortlessly.”
Jeanette Panaga and Jovielyn Prado later on combined for 25 points as PetroGazz rebounded from a stinging setback to Creamline last week by beating erstwhile unbeaten PacificTown Army, 25-15, 25-15, 25-19.
The Reinforced Conference champions improved to 2-2 while the Lady Troopers absorbed their first loss after back-to-back victories.
Tots Carlos also stepped up big and backed Pablo with 14 hits, including eight attack points, three aces and three kill blocks while adding eight excellent receptions to spike another superb all-around game.
Isa Molde also chipped in 10 markers and made 10 digs while Fil-Am setter Iris Tolenada tallied 17 excellent sets on top of six points for Motolite.
