Filipina booters come up short in gallant stand vs mighty Thais
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine national women's football team gave defending champion Thailand a run for its money in a hard-fought 2-4 defeat in the AFF Women's Championship 2019 in Chonburi on Wednesday.
The Malditas held the Thais at a 1-1 deadlock at halftime, with Quinley Quesada scoring for the Philippine side in the 11th minute.
Despite Quesada scoring again in the 66th minute mark, the Filipinas just couldn't hold on as Thailand took over.
The Nationals suffer their first defeat in the tournament and remain at six points after cruising past Malaysia and Timor-Leste earlier in the tournament.
They still have a chance to reach the semifinals if they beat Singapore on Friday.
