Mighty freshens up, returns to play vs Indonesia tomorrow

MANILA, Philippines — After five straight games that it all won, Mighty Sports Apparel-Phl takes a welcome two-day breather before resuming its quest in taking on lowly Indonesia in the 41st Jones Cup in Taipei tomorrow.

Mighty Sports is three wins away from matching its sweep feat in 2016 after convincing wins over Iran (98-72), Jordan (90-76), Japan (94-59), Canada (116-87) and Korea (89-82).

Bannered by resident PBA imports Renaldo Balkman and Eugene Phelps, Mighty Sports cruised past its first five opponents to gain solo leadership in this eight-team tourney.

So far, coach Charles Tiu and his wards have been tested just once by the gritty Korean squad. But the Phl club team won convincingly in the end.

Their perfect 5-0 start puts Mighty Sports in a good position to reclaim the Jones Cup crown it won in 2016 then under coach Bo Perasol.

After the match against Indonesia tomorrow, Mighty Sports will take on the home teams – Chinese Taipei A and B.
