TCC Invitational ushers in milestone PGT season

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Golf Tour marks its decade-long staging with a 12-stage circuit at the country’s top courses with The Country Club Invitational kicking off the tour on April 23-26 at the Tom Weiskoph-designed layout in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

Six former champions lead the chase for top honors in the 72-hole event with Angelo Que and Juvic Pagunsan going for a record fourth crown in what has long been considered as a major golfing championship for its stellar cast and prize fund of P5 million.

Korean-American Micah Shin, who nipped Miguel Tabuena by one to become the first non-Filipino to win the event featuring the top 30 players in the 2018 PGT Order of Merit ranking, will be hard-pressed to duplicate his feat given the depth of the field and the course that favors no particular player or style.

Tabuena, for one, is out not only to reclaim the championship he won via playoff over Pagunsan in 2017 but also herald his comeback from a back injury that has hampered his campaign abroad and forced him to withdraw from the recent Solaire Philippine Open.
