HS seniors help organize run for La Mesa watershed

MANILA, Philippines — Millennials are in the forefront of a sporting event that aims to highlight environmental awareness among city dwellers when the third and final leg of the Compressport Forest Run is held at the La Mesa Nature Reserve on Sunday.

Twelve Grade 12 students of the Immaculate Concepcion Academy are part of the organizing committee of the forest run, which includes four distances – 6K, 12K, 21K and the full 42-kilometer marathon. The previous legs of the forest run were held in 2016 and 2017.

Headed by Alyssa Christine Ty, the group includes Monique Cosiquien, Summer Go, Samantha Golangco and Beatrice Dy. The high school seniors head different committees in the campaign to bring back nature to the busy life of Metro Manila and create awareness of the environment.

La Mesa is part of Metro Manila’s watershed and will require strict compliance to forest rules. Although water will be provided along the routes, there will no cups available so participants are required to bring their own cups or water bottles. Littering is strictly prohibited.

Participants are also required to bring their own food, whistle, cell phones, and in the case of the 21K and 42K entries, headlamps and jacket/poncho (optional).

A portion of the registration fees will be donated to the ABS-CBN Foundation for the development and preservation of the watershed.

The top three male and female finishers of each category will be declared in all four distances.
