MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Lady Volcanoes got off to an explosive start in the Asia Rugby Women’s Sevens Trophy, disposing of their first two opponents to take the early lead in Pool B action yesterday at Panaga Club in Seria, Brunei.

The Filipinas opened hostilities with a 12-5 dispatching of Uzbekistan then followed it up with a 31-0 demolition of Pakistan to zoom to the top of the table with four points. They enjoy a two-point margin against the second-running Uzbeks, who rebounded from their first-game setback with a 10-5 verdict over India.

The Phl was slated to take on India and Nepal next in the pool, aiming to sustain the charge as it bids to make it to the medal rounds of the event, a qualifier for the top-flight Asia Rugby Women’s Sevens Series next year.
