Pacquiao-Broner in the works?

Manny Pacquiao and Adrien Broner

MANILA, Philippines Manny Pacquiao may end up tangling with former four-division champion Adrien Broner in his next fight planned for either in December or January next year.

Sources close to Pacquiao said his team has already prepared a contract to be presented to Broner, who is being managed by the influential but reclusive Al Haymon.

This comes amid reports claiming Pacquiao has held talks with the camp of Haymon, who is also an adviser to Floyd Mayweather Jr.

No venue has been specified for Pacquiao versus Broner, although the US is a strong candidate following the Filipino icon's previous declaration that he plans to return to boxing's biggest market for his next fight.

Broner, 29, has held titles at junior lightweight (130 pounds), lightweight (135), light welterweight (140) and welterweight (147). He sports a record of 33-3-1, with 24 knockouts.

The Cincinnati, Ohio-based fighter, nicknamed "The Problem," last fought in April this year, a majority draw against previous Pacquiao victim Jessie Vargas.

If a deal is reached, Pacquiao will put the WBA "regular" welterweight championship on the line. The fighting senator won the strap from Lucas Matthysse, whom he stopped in the seventh round in their showdown in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last July.
