Ex-La Salle stars banner Petro Gazz in PVL

MANILA, Philippines — Petro Gazz will be the newest member of the Premier Volleyball League unfolding this May.

Called the Angels, the team will be coached by former University of the Philippines mentor Jerry Yee and skippered by former La Salle stars Paneng Mercado and Chie Saet.

Also in the team are ex-La Salle star Wensh Tiu, former College of St. Benilde standouts Dianel Cheng, Ranya Musa and Rica Enclona and Kai Nepomuceno, formerly of Pocari Sweat.

Yee said they’re tapping Estonian Kadi Kullerkann and Ukrainian Anastasiia Trach as their reinforcements.

The other players are Rachel Anne Austero, Cienne Cruz and Alyssa Layug.

“Most of my players are already familiar with each other’s game, that is a big plus for us,” said Yee.

Petro Gazz, headed by its president Ricky Villavicencio, is expected to give powerhouse Creamline, Perlas-BanKo and Pocari Sweat a run for their money.

The Cool Smashers are stacked in talent as they will be headed by Alyssa Valdez, Jia Morado, Risa Sato and beauty queen contestant Michele Gumabao while Perlas-BanKo is equally loaded as they will be led by Amy Ahomiro and Ella de Jesus.
