NU spikers seek number 6 vs Lady Tams

MANILA, Philippines — Streaking National U seeks to maintain a high level of play as it guns for No. 6 against dangerous Far Eastern today in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament at Filoil Flying V Center.

The Lady Bulldogs kept their record clean after surviving the tough UST Tigresses, 25-19, 14-25, 25-19, 28-26, in a game that coach Babes Castillo felt more like a lost outing and showcased their need to level up some more in the 4 p.m. duel with the Lady Tams (3-2).

“It was a struggle for us; we set a standard for ourselves that we couldn’t meet in that game,” Castillo said. “I really expect the team to bring their level of game one notch higher everytime we play and to pursue such standard with grit and tenacity.”

Jaja Santiago has been the team’s anchor, not only providing points but a business-like attitude that rubs off on her teammates, as seen in the UST game where she took charge in their come-from-behind decision in the fourth that extended their unbeaten run.

“We can see her transformation to a leader more than just a great player,” said Castillo of the towering Santiago.
