CEU nails 3rd win, stops Zark’s
MANILA, Philippines — Rod Ebondo put up a double-double game of 33 points and 20 rebounds as Centro Escolar University repelled Zark’s Burgers-Lyceum, 91-85, yesterday to notch its third straight victory in the PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup at the Pasig City Sports Center.
Ebondo highlighted his monster game with a defensive rebound and an assist that set up Art Aquino for the go-ahead layup and the Scorpions took control the rest of the way to remain the only unbeaten squad in the 12-team field.
Aquino’s layup shattered the 84-all count and sparked a 7-1 rally by CEU in the final 1:22 capped by Ebondo’s slam.
Ebondo also had three assists, two steals and two shot blocks.
CJ Perez and Jaycee Marcelino led Zark’s Burgers-LPU with 17 and 15 points, respectively, but made crucial turnovers down the stretch.
Jayvee Marcelino and Jeric Serrano added 10 apiece for the Jawbreakers, whose four-game run was snapped. They dropped to 4-2.
Earlier, Che’Lu Bar and Grill-San Sebastian poured it all out in the second half as it thumped Go for Gold, 87-65, for fifth at 4-3.
The Revellers actually seized control early, 15-2, but slowed down late in the first quarter, enabling the Scratchers to pull to within five, 12-17, before the former settled for a 10-point lead, 39-29, at the turn.
