MANILA, Philippines — Colegio de San Lorenzo leaned on the comebacking Jon Gabriel and Soulemane Chabi Yo as the Griffins got back at the Olivarez Sea Lions, 78-61, in their knockout duel for the other finals berth in the second Universities and Colleges Basketball League (UCBL) at the Olivarez gym in Sucat, Parañaque yesterday.

The Griffins took charge early then pulled away in the second half with Chabi Yo finishing with 22 points and the high-leaping Gabriel backing him up with 13 markers to power the team to the 17-point romp and a title clash with the top-seeded defending champion Centro Escolar U Scorpions.

Game One of the best-of-three finals will start tomorrow at 2 p.m. after the 12 noon battle for third between Olivarez and Diliman.

CdSL coach Boni Garcia also drew big games from veterans Charles Callano and Gelo Sablan, who combined for 37 points, as the Griffins bounced back from their 69-74 setback to the hosts that forced the playoff for the second championship berth.

The 6-foot-6 Chabi Yo made up for his so-so showing last Monday by dishing out a double-double that included 14 rebounds while Callano continued his stellar play with 21 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.
