Pinoy fencers grab 10 medals in SEA championship

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippines' fencing team amassed 10 medals in the recently concluded South East Asia Fencing Federation Championships at the OCBC Arena in Singapore.

The national team took home three gold medals, two silvers and five bronzes in the four-day tournament from September 3-6.

Filipino-American Louie Brennan Wayne ruled the men's individual foil event, defeating Singapore's Zhenggang Zhang. Nathaniel Perez settled for bronze in the same event.

Brennan Wayne and Perez later teamed up with Samuel Tranquilan and Michael Nicanor to defeat Singapore Team A in the men's foil team gold medal match, 45-43.

Harlene Orendain, Gabrielle Estimada and Hanniel Abella grabbed the country's third gold in the women's Epee team event after defeating Vietnam.

Silver finishes came from the women's Saber team and Noelito Jose in the men's epee competition.

The country's other bronze medals came from  Orendain in the women's indivual epee, women's team foil and men's epee and saber teams.

The Pinoy fencers, coached by Ramil Endriano, Oniong Vizcayno and Ricardo Fuenzalida, finished third overall behind Vietnam and Singapore.
