MANILA, Philippines - As he took the floor to formally receive the UAAP Season 78 men’s basketball MVP plum, two-time winner Kiefer Ravena of Ateneo took Santo Tomas veteran Kevin Ferrer with him and shared the trophy.

“I shared it with him kasi deserved niya rin talaga (Ferrer also deserved the award),” said Ravena, who beat Ferrer by two statistical points, 69.500 versus 67.3571.

“He’s probably two or three rebounds from getting that MVP off me but it’s more than that.  It’s more than stats, it’s how he represents the school well this year and I’m really proud of Kevin. Growing up watching his style of play, he really evolved into a great leader. That’s why I did that,” Ravena added.

Ravena and Ferrer have been competitors since their high school days. Ferrer got  the better of Ravena in their dispute for the Season 73 MVP plum in their senior year with the Tiger Cubs and Blue Eaglets, respectively.

“I cherish the companionship and friendship we shared all throughout being competitors and just wanting to help our schools win,” he said.

Ravena and Ferrer were joined by La Salle’s Jeron Teng, UST’s Ed Daquioag and National U’s Alfred Aroga in the Mythical 5.
