MANILA, Philippines - Male Swimmer of the Year Sean Terence Zamora and former Rookie of the Year awardee Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh made huge waves on Sunday, breaking three meet records each in the 73rd Philippine Swimming League (PSL)-Diliman Preparatory School leg at the DPS pool in Quezon City.
Zamora, a University of Santo Tomas standout, notched new marks in the boys’ 14 years 50-meter backstroke (29.39), 200m freestyle (2:02.50) and 50m butterfly (27.31) while Mojdeh, a Grade 3 student at Immaculate Heart of Mary College-Paranaque, broke the standing records in the girls’ 8 years 50m butterfly (37.96), 50m backstroke (42.94) and 100m freestyle (1:18.56).
Female Swimmer of the Year and Milo Junior Athlete of the Year Kyla Soguilon was also unstoppable in the girls’ 10 years event as she reset marks in the 50m butterfly (34.40), 50m backstroke (35.78) and 100m free (1:07.78).
“These kids are improving so fast. Our focus right now is to keep them improving and be more competitive especially in international level,” said PSL president Susan Papa.
Also nailing records were Sean Elijah Enero (boys’ 15-16, 50m backstroke), Janelle Blanch (girls 7, 50m back), Eirik Rivera (boys’ 9, 50m fly), Stephen Guzman (boys’ 10, 50m back), Darwin Tumaneng (boys’ 17-over, 400m free) and Charles Ticbaen (boys’ 11, 200m free).
Zamora, Mojdeh, Soguilon, Enero, Blanch, Guzman, Ticbaen and Tumaneng went on to win their respective Most Outstanding Swimmer (MOS) awards in their categories.
The other MOS winners were Althea Golimlim (6-under), Allyza Palermo (9), Franz Emannuelle Joves (11), Neve Alyssa Salgado (12), Juliana Lirio (13), Mara Sabina Cruz (14), Julianne Torres (15-16) and Danalyn Parco (17-over) in the girls’ Class A-B; and Justin Badion (6-under), Joey Del Rosario (7), Lee Grant Cabral (8), Lance Cruz (9), Sean Cruz (12) and Jerard Dominic Jacinto (13) in the boys’ Class A-B.
The MOS in the motivational category were Shaina Adducul (6-under), Janna Endozo (7), Simone Rosayaga (8), Hazel Bautista (9), Vida Gomez (10), Kimberly Digneneng (11), Nicole Ariate (12), Nobelyn Abrantes (13), Maureen Trinidad (14), Naomi Corpuz (15-16) and Leah Tudos (17-over) in girls; and Mark Roen Fucanan (6-under), Allen Conda (7), Andre Gueco (8), Roselliar Villafuerte (9), Roehl Bunag (10), Dustin Evangelista (11), Rein Cueto (12), Recz Edward Agustin (13), Gabriel del Rosario (14), Aron Anthony Romey (15-16), and Clifford Dizon (17-over) in boys.
