MACAU – Manny Pacquiao’s fight with Chris Algieri is set at a catch weight of 144 pounds, but the Filipino might even weigh less than that when they hit the scales in the official weigh-in ceremony on Saturday.

“I’m still a couple [of] pounds [under 144]. I need to eat more,” Pacquiao told reporters after a two-hour media workout Thursday at The Venetian Macao here.

This is in spite of the fact that Pacquiao’s eating as he pleases.

“I’m very comfortable. Hindi ako nagugutom (I don’t need to starve myself),” added Pacquiao, who appeared to be in great shape.

The WBO welterweight champion then said he expects to tip in below the contracted weight, adding that anywhere below 144 pounds is his ideal fighting weight.

After the official weigh-in ceremony, the fighting congressman plans not to pack too much pounds in the 24-hour period, like he’s done in past fights.

“Less than 150,” he replied when asked how heavy he’ll be on fight day.

He’s confident that’s all he needs to weigh to keep up with Algieri.
