SIDELIGHTS: Pinoys, Senegalese engage in psy war

SEVILLE, Spain – Psy war is on two days before the Gilas Pilipinas-Senegal match.

Chancing upon one another outside the playing venue, top backers and leaders of the two teams engaged in unfriendly banters.

“Filipinos? Philippines?” asked a Senegalese, identified as such by his identification card and the Senegalese shirt he’s wearing.

Answered in the affirmative by the group composed of MVP Group executives, the Senegalese, apparently intoxicated, said: “Go home.”

Meralco top official Oscar Reyes and PLDT top executive Pol Nazareno answered: “Yes we’ll go home after we beat you.”

Renaldo Balkman’s indefinite suspension in the PBA won’t be lifted just yet.

On Sunday, Balkman told a small group of Filipino sportswriters he wants to be back in the Philippines and play in the PBA if given the chance.

“Let’s not go there. I don’t want to visit that place,” PBA commissioner Chito Salud answered on queries whether Balkman’s suspension can be lifted in the future.

“It’s not the  time,” Salud also said.

Ever Bilena’s Dioceldo Sy and Lamoiyan Corp.’s Cecilio Pedro lead a group of Filipino-Chinese basketball followers who have also flown in to watch the Gilas games here.

They pledged a P1 million cash incentive for Gilas if it’s able to make the World Cup knockout stage.
