US teenagers sustain golden swims in Worlds

Katie Ledecky and Missy Franklin continued their dominance of the 15th Fina World Championships, winning their fourth and fifth gold medals for Team USA, respectively, in Spain.

Ledecky, who shattered the old mark in the 1500m freestyle earlier in the week, set a second world record of 8:13.86 in 800m free.

Wearing the Speedo Fastskin LZR Racer Elite 2, Ledecky’s impressive performance saw her beat the previous best time of 8:14.10 set by Rebecca Adlington during the 2008 Olympic Games. Team Speedo New Zealand’s Lauren Boyle took the bronze in 8:18.58.

“Whew...My meet is over! Glad to end on a good note! Thanks again to everyone for the support!,” said Ledecky in a tweet posted after the race.

Earlier, Franklin took her fifth gold in the week by dominating the 200m backstroke.

Also wearing the Speedo LZR Racer Elite 2, Franklin established a clear lead in the opening leg and maintained it throughout the race to set a new competition record of 2:04.76.

Belinda Hocking of Team Speedo Australia earned the silver while Canada’s Hilary Caldwell ensured the top three spots were taken by athletes wearing Speedo by finishing third.
