Resuello claim crown despite 4th place finish

MANILA, Philippines - Raniel Resuello of Kawasaki Racing Team-Castrol-Motolite captured the Superbikes crown despite a fourth-place finish in the final leg of the Bridgestone Philippine Superbikes Championships at the Clark International Speedway in Pampanga recently.

Resuello, 22, totaled 140 points to annex not just the overall plum but also the Superbikes Expert title over Toti Alberto and John Defensor with a 122-point aggregate and the Intermediate crown over Anthony Roman and Marvin Mangulabnan with a total of 122 points.

“It could have been a long wait, but looking at it now, everything came just at a right time with no regrets since I’m done with my studies and the title came just when I was ready for it,” said Resuello, who passed the nursing board exam last December.

Former champion Glenn Aguilar ruled the final race he dominated from start to finish. Resuello nearly caught up with Aguilar midway through but a loose exhaust pipe forced him to slow down.

Resuello didn’t force the issue and decided to finish the race at that pace to complete the points needed and seal the crown in the event backed by Bridgestone under the supervision of Superbikes Racing Association or SBRA headed by president John Defensor.

Aguilar won by just 0.551 seconds ahead of Marvin Mangulabnan with Anthony Roman settling for third.

Alberto clinched the Superbikes Masters title over Defensor while Roman copped the Superbikes Novice crown over Mangulabnan.

Other winners were Aries Padiernos, who topped the 400cc Expert crown, and Arvel Veluz, who who ruled the 400cc Novice division.
