UP Law School hosts Malcolm Cup golf tiff

Manila, Philippines - The University of the Philippines (UP) College of Law Class of 1986, this year’s silver jubilarian class, is hosting the much-awaited Malcolm Cup-Centennial Edition at the Wack Wack Golf and Country Club’s West course in Mandaluyong on July 28.

With Class of 1986 as the lead batch, the Malcolm Cup, a modified Stableford tournament, aims to foster the spirit of fellowship and camaraderie among golfing alumni, members, friends, sponsors and supporters of the college, which is celebrating its 100th year.

About 144 participants are expected to play in the 18-hole event, which will stake a brand-new Toyota Altis, courtesy of Toyota Abad Santos, as hole-in-one prize. UP College of Law Dean Danilo Concepcion will lead the ceremonial tee-off.

The Malcolm Cup, to be co-presented by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR), will also serve as the Class 1986’s fund-raising activity.

Class ‘86 president Grace Quevedo-Panagsagan said among its plans are the setting up of a scholarship and financial assistance fund for deserving law students, undertaking the Malcolm Centennial Walk project to renovate and landscape the façade of the college, and hosting of the grand alumni homecoming Nov. 11 at the Philippine International Convention Center.

Also, the Malcolm Cup, which also has Petron Corp., and Roxas Group of Cos. as sponsors, will have a Search for the Malcolm 100, a group of outstanding alumni who best exemplify UP’s values of honor, excellence, leadership and service.

Platon, Martinez, Flores, San Pedro and Leaño Law Offices, Siguion Reyna, Montecillo, and Ongsiako Law Offices, Atty. Alex Gaticales (Class ‘82), Dean Concepcion (Class ‘82), Telcom Concepts, Sigma Rho Fraternity, Renato Villaseñor, Copylandia, CATS Motors Inc. and Portia Sorority are the other sponsors.

Backing the event are Hercar Builders, Inc., Atty Janette Peña (UP Law Class of 1985), Tonicare Water Bottling Co., UP Women Lawyers’ Circle (WILOCI) and P & G Corp.
