Agui golfers reign anew in Asian Ladies

MANILA, Philippines - Camp Aguinaldo I rode on a solid second round charge to turn back Southwoods Master Team and retain the Group I crown in the Asian Ladies Team Championship at the Camp John Hay Golf Club in Baguio Thursday.

The Aguinaldo ladies, who beat their Valley Golf counterparts by 10 points to rule last year’s staging of the event, recovered from a mediocre 123 output in the first round with a solid 146 then cruised to a 21-point victory over Southwoods with a closing 133.

Composed of Josie Untal, Matet Salivio, Karen Kime and Bianca Pagdanganan, Aguinaldo I wound up with a 402 aggregate in the four-to-play, three-to-count format event sponsored by Golforce, Warbird Security and Investigation Agency, Inc., Asia Pacific Golf Corp., Camp John Hay Manor, Le Chef, Poblador, Bautista and Reyes Law Offices, Camp John Hay Devt Corp., Rizgolf Sports Marketing, Boracay Sands, Fairways and Bluewater.

Behind Kat Gonzales, Southwoods took charge in the opener of the 54-hole tournament with a 128 but reeled back in the face of Aguinaldo’s sizzling run in the second round. The Carmona-based golfers sputtered with a 122 on the second day and finished with a 131 for a 381.

Gonzales, however, clinched the individual crown in Group I with rounds of 46 and back-to-back 49s for a 144 in the tournament also backed by the Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club, The Manila Southwoods Manor, Dusit Thani Manila, Sherwood Hills Golf Club, Forest Hills Golf Club, Thunderbird Resorts, The Cliffs Golf and Beach Club, Palm Garden Health Spa and ABW Leaves of Life.
