LOS BANOS, Laguna – The College Country Club, one of the longest-existing associations of tennis players in Southern Tagalog, recently elected its set of officers for 2009.
Vicente Cabrera of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-Region IV-A succeeded Kevin Yaptenco of UPLB as CCC president. Others elected were Arnold Elepaño of UPLB (vice president), Armando Diaz (secretary), Ryan Carlo de Leon (treasurer) and Cesar Quicoy (recreation director).
Dante de Padua, former UPLB dean and one-time director of the Department of Agriculture-National Postharvest Institute for Research and Extension (NAPHIRE), now Bureau of Postharvest, Research and Extension, and Ramon Valmayor, former executive director of the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCARRD) were named advisers.
UPLB chancellor Luis Rey Velasco inducted the new officers of the club, established in 1964 by a group of tennis enthusiasts in UPLB.
Its members include officials, scientists, and staff members of institutions and agencies composed mostly by the 22-member Los Baños Science Community (LBSC), among them UPLB, International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA), and agencies under DOST and DENR based in Los Baños. – Rudy Fernandez
