Jobe claims old spot in Eagles roster

Jobe Nkemakolam, the power-playing Ateneo forward, is back in the Eagles‘ nest.

Ateneo board representative Ricky Palou said the 6-4 Nkemakolam has completed his summer remedial studies to regain his spot in the Eagles roster for the 71st UAAP basketball tournament, which reels off July 5 at the Araneta Coliseum.

“He was suspended from the team last semester and had a lot of catching up to do as far as his (academic) requirements are concerned,” said Palou in yesterday PSA Forum at the Shakey’s UN Ave.

“But he will play this season and we are sure he would be a big help to our campaign this year,” Palou said.

Nkemakolam presence is expected to firm up the Eagles’ frontline rotation that include Rabeh Al-Hussaini, Noy Baclao, Mike Baldos the tall rookie duo of Justin Chua and Vince Burke.

Even Ateneo coach Norman Black was excited over Nkemakolam’s return.

“He’s going to be a big help,” said Black right after he steered the Eagles to the Nike Summer League title despite playing without the hefty Nkemakolam. – Joey Villar
