Yancy carries St. Francis to NCRAA title

Yancy de Ocampo capped his collegiate stint in the most memorable way, scoring a team-high 29 points as St. Francis of Assisi annexed its second straight National Capital Region Athletic Association (NCRAA) men’s basketball crown with a 91-81 victory over a tired Lyceum squad last night at the Rizal Coliseum.

The center, who missed, all but three of his team’s elimination round games, fired 12 of his total in the fourth quarter when the Doves pulled away from a mere 66-64 lead to complete the comeback following a stinging 78-77 loss in Game One.

SFACS also won Game Two, 79-72, of the finals series supported by DAR, PAGCOR, Mikasa, Pepsi-Cola, Splash and Topnotch Trophies of Makati.

"This is really my goal for St. Francis. Before I leave for the professional ranks, I want to give them another championship and we were successful," said De Ocampo.

De Ocampo will spearhead Welcoat’s charge against Shark Energy Drink in a best-of-seven showdown in the Philippine Basketball League before joining Federal Express in the Philippine Basketball Association on Feb. 10.

SFACS’ junior squad completed the twin kill by snaring the crown over Olivarez College, 81-74, as Llomer Losentes gained the MVP award.
