16 jungolf teams vie in Interclub

Sixteen squads, including six provincial squads, see action in the annual Jungolf Interclub tournament starting today at the posh Manila Golf Club course inside Forbes Park.

Sherwood Hills, the defending champion, will be fielding the same team that won it last year in the tourney serving as the second leg of the summer circuit of the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines.

Gene Bondoc, runaway winner of Class A in last week’s circuit opener at Tagaytay Highlands, will be spearheading the Sherwood squad that also includes Jacy Chua, Kim Chang Hoi and Martin Mediana.

The event, sponsored by Northwest Airlines, will be preceded by the hitting of ceremonial balls by NGAP president Rod Feliciano, Jungolf chair Amalia Montecillo, Jungolf president Merwin Mediana and MGC manager Joe Crespo at 7 a.m.

Aside from Sherwood Hills, the teams entered are Aguinaldo, Alabang, Baguio Country Club, Baguio Jungolf, Camp John Hay, Caltex Gold, Caltex Vortex, Canlubang, Kagitingan, Mimosa, Orchard, Pueblo del Oro, Riviera, Southwoods and Villamor.

Each team is required to field two players in Class A and two in Class B with the best three scores to count for the daily tally.

Results of the Interclub will also count in the race for berths to the Junior World championships in San Diego and Optimist International in Florida.
