Bohol PDRRMC reports: 6 dead after Queenie hit province

TAGBILARAN CITY, Philippines  — Tropical storm Queenie has wreaked havoc in this city and at least 14 towns of Bohol, leaving behind six fatalities, according to the initial Damage Assessment Report of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council yesterday.

A certain Flaviana Betonio of Duero town and Rosito Cutanda Gabas of President Carlos P. Garcia island-town were added to the death toll of four, the report said.

Earlier, Jagna town MDRRMC officer Gerry Araneta has reported that three casualties were identified as Roque Sandoval, 62, a fisherman, Cesario de la Serna, 59, a resident of Liloan, Cebu and chief engineer of the vessel that ran aground here; and Robinson Ceballos, 32, fisherman of Bunga Mar, Jagna.

Araneta, in a phone call last night, confirmed that Adrian Sagrado, who went missing after the storm, was found dead in coastal barangay Bunga Mar, Jagna, Bohol.

A total of 11 persons were injured and four remained missing, based on the municipal damage reports forwarded to the PDRRMC. A total of 1,072 families were affected and 328 displaced, the report said.

Besides this city, the towns affected are Bilar, Loay, Garcia-Hernandez, Jagna, Duero, Guindulman, Mabini, Anda, Ubay, President Carlos P. Garcia, Sikatuna, Catigbian, Maribojoc, Loon and Corella.

A total of 141 houses were totally destroyed and 1,211 others were partially damaged. Fishing boats numbering 696 were badly damaged along with 34 motorized boats, two paddle boats, and 52 fishing nets, the report initially recorded. (FREEMAN)
