COVID-19, ‘wag gamitin sa jeepney phaseout! - Solon
MANILA, Philippines — Huwag samantalahin at gamitin ang isyu ng COVID-19 pandemic sa planong pag-phaseout sa mga jeepney.
Ito ang binigyang diin ni Bayan Muna Rep. Carlos Isagani Zarate sa Department of Transportation (DOTr) kasunod ng pagbabawal pa rin sa mga Public Utility Vehicles (PUVs) tulad ng mga jeep at bus sa ilalim ng ipatutupad na general community quarantine (GCQ) sa Metro Manila simula bukas, Hunyo 1.
“This is an indicative of the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) plan to phase out public utility jeepneys,” pahayag ni Zarate dahil masyadong mahaba ang suspensyon sa pagbabawal na pumasada ang mga jeepneys.
“It appears that the DOTr is using the COVID pandemic to push through with its anti-people and anti-poor plan to get rid of jeepneys. With the shift to GCQ on Monday we can expect once again a manifestation of the grave mass transportation crisis because those going out to work would have only a very minimal means of transportation,” pahayag pa ng Deputy Minority Leader.
Giniit na limitado lamang ang ruta ng tricycle at lubhang mahirap sumakay sa mga point to point bus dahil lalagpas sa patutunguhan ang mga manggagawa na lubhang mahihirapan at magagastusan ng malaki sa transportasyon.
“Dapat nga ay isama na sa sinasabing better normal ang pagkakaroon ng mura, maaasahan at ligtas na mass transportation system. There should really be a comprehensive transportation plan as well as urban planning for the country that would not be affected by the change in administrations,” giit pa ni Zarate.
