Matamis ang kampeonato ng Tigers

MANILA, Philippines — Isang matamis na pag­hihiganti ang nakamit ng Davao Occidental Tigers laban sa karibal na San Juan Knights.

“It’s so much sweeter because we got it back from San Juan,” sabi ni Davao head coach Don Dulay. “We were so close last time and it was heartbreaking as an organization.”

Isinalpak ni veteran Mark Yee ang mahalagang three-point shot sa huling 13 segundo ng overtime para itakas ang Tigers laban sa Knights, 89-88, sa Game Four at angkinin ang korona ng MPBL Lakan Cup kamakalawa ng gabi ‘bubble’ sa Subic Bay Gymnasium.

Tinapos ng Davao ang kanilang best-of-five national championship series ng San Juan sa 3-1.

Nauna nang tinalo ng Knights ang Tigers, 3-2, sa kanilang titular showdown noong nakaraang 2019 MPBL Datu Cup.

Kinilala ang 39-anyos na si Yee bilang Finals MVP matapos kumolekta ng 19 points, 12 rebounds at 3 assists para sa Davao habang umiskor si Emman Calo ng 22 markers at nagdagdag sina Joseph Terso at Billy Robles ng tig-11 points.

Pinamunuan ni center Larry Rodriguez ang San Juan sa kanyang 19 mar­kers at may 18, 14 at 13 points sina Jhonard Clarito, CJ Isit at John Wilson, ayon sa pagkakasunod.

Sinakmal ng Tigers ang Game One via overtime, 77-75, at ang Game Three, 66-58 habang itinakas ng Knights ang Game Two, 70-65.
